In this Winter Showcase, Advanced Drawing and Painting is exhibiting its students’ foundational work — a transition from drawing into painting. We began by working in portraiture — showcasing both the students’ stylized version of themselves along with a more representational approach. From there we explored figure drawing; taking advantage of the Halloween season, we had our class create a piece based on a costumed subject. Taking a slight turn, our class then moved onto generating ideas by creating and then recreating work from collages that they made. We then dove into exploring color by challenging our students to match the local color in a still life that they created from objects found at home. Combining both technique and ideation, our students then worked on a sustained investigation- a small series of work-related by style and concept.
